Awekening is when you use relics on units to increase their stats, get new traits or improve their skills.
Guards can obtain 4, heroes can obtain 5 new traits by using relics. The stat bonuses obtained by using relics are percentage based, so they grow along with your units base stats, they can be increased by even 50%. Since level9 rank relics are not implemented in the game yet, it is not possible to raise the rank of the skills.
